What is BBL?

Broadband Light is a cutting-edge solution for rejuvenating age-depleted skin. It sets a new standard for eradicating sun damage, poor skin texture, loss of elasticity, and acne. Numerous wavelengths are available, making it easy to customize each session. Dr. Joshua Korman is known for his extensive knowledge and expertise when it comes to laser therapy. As laser technology has evolved and advanced, Dr. Korman has kept up, acquiring the newest groundbreaking devices on the market.

How does BBL work?

The thermal energy released by BBL gently heats the skin’s superficial layers. This stimulates the body to produce more collagen while enhancing cellular turnover. The process leads to a more vibrant, youthful-looking complexion. Your BBL treatment plan will be tailored to address your unique concerns. BBL can target the following skin imperfections:

  • Freckles
  • Age spots
  • Rosacea
  • Small blood vessels
  • Acne
  • Acne scarring
  • Enlarged pores
  • Melasma
  • Sun damage
  • Sunspots
  • Signs of aging
  • Loss of skin firmness

What To Expect During BBL Laser Treatment

Dr. Korman may recommend a series of sessions with BBL to comprehensively eradicate your skin imperfections and achieve the glowing complexion you desire. BBL comes with minimal discomfort. During your session:

  • You will be fitted with protective eyewear
  • Your skin will be numbed with a topical anesthetic
  • You may notice brief flashes of light
  • You may feel a warm sensation
  • Some patients describe a mild stinging feeling similar to the snap of a rubber band

Recovery After BBL Therapy

After your session, the skin may appear pink, as though you have acquired a mild sunburn. This redness can last from 2-4 hours after BBL. Swelling may also occur in certain sensitive areas but will dissipate within around 3-5 days. You can use a cold compress or over-the-counter painkillers to help offset any discomfort. Some areas may become darker in color over the next few days.

This is perfectly normal. Avoid picking, scratching, or interfering with your skin in any way, as this can lead to scarring. The skin will naturally shed the damaged cells over the course of a few weeks. Most patients can resume their normal activities after BBL and can apply cosmetics and other skin products as needed. Avoiding harmful UV rays after BBL is essential. Patients should use sunblock with an SPF of 30 or higher.

Am I A Good Candidate For BBL?

If you are experiencing signs of aging, sun damage, or hyperpigmentation, BBL therapy can correct these concerns and restore a radiant, vibrant skin appearance. The best candidates have lighter skin tones. Darker or tanned skin can absorb too much of the laser heat, resulting in a higher risk of scarring or discoloration after treatment. Patients who have used Accutane in the last 6-12 months should avoid BBL. The treatment is also not recommended for pregnant or nursing patients. If you are not a candidate for BBL, Dr. Korman can recommend several other world-class skincare treatments that will be more appropriate. As with any cosmetic undertaking, patients should be in good physical and emotional health and have realistic expectations for improvement rather than perfection.
