What Is Liquid Rhinoplasty?

A non-surgical rhinoplasty – dubbed a “liquid” nose job due to its reliance on dermal fillers and injectables – can accomplish many of the same goals as its more invasive counterpart, only without the anesthesia risks, bruising, and longer recovery period. A liquid rhinoplasty can refine the nasal bridge and bring harmony, symmetry, and balance to the nasal tip, improving the overall facial appearance and profile. For many patients, a liquid rhinoplasty helps them to “try on” changes to the nose before committing to a more costly and time-consuming surgical journey.

What Are The Benefits Of Liquid Rhinoplasty?

A non-surgical nose job comes with a wealth of social, cosmetic, and emotional benefits. Advantages include:

  • Enhances self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Improves facial balance and symmetry
  • Corrects aesthetic flaws in the nasal bridge, nostrils, and tip
  • Non-invasive and non-surgical
  • Minimal downtime or discomfort
  • Results can last 9-12 months
  • Short treatment time
  • Cost-effective
  • Resume normal activities right away
  • “Try on” cosmetic changes before undergoing surgical rhinoplasty

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty?

Patients who seek subtle yet elegant improvements in the shape of their nose will find an excellent solution in liquid rhinoplasty. They may wish to refine their nasal tip, bridge, or nostrils but are not yet ready to commit to an invasive, costly procedure. Dr. Korman can meet with you at one of his conveniently located offices in Los Altos, Mountain View, San Jose, or Carmel-by-the-Sea to conduct a private consultation and determine your candidacy for a non-surgical nose job.

Who Is Not A Suitable Candidate?

While liquid rhinoplasty can address minor bumps, depressions, and contour irregularities in the nose, it is not the ideal choice for those patients who wish to reduce the overall size of the nose or make more dramatic alterations to the nasal structure. Likewise, a non-surgical nose job may not be the best option for patients with allergies to any of the ingredients in dermal fillers or for those with active skin infections or disorders. Liquid rhinoplasty is not recommended for women who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding.

What Will The Treatment Entail?

The treatment process begins with a detailed consultation, during which Dr. Korman and his team will take preoperative photographs for reference. On the day of your non-surgical rhinoplasty, the skin is cleansed and numbed with a topical anesthetic. To help guide the injection process, the appropriate markings on the nose will be created using a surgical pen. The nose will then be injected with dermal fillers according to your carefully crafted treatment plan.

Is There Any Downtime After Liquid Rhinoplasty?

Since a liquid rhinoplasty is non-surgical and non-invasive, you can expect to immediately resume your regular activities after your session. In fact, many patients come into the office over their lunch breaks, knowing that non-surgical rhinoplasty can be performed quickly and easily. Patients do typically encounter minor side effects after the treatment, including mild swelling and redness at the injection points. However, these symptoms quickly abate, usually within a matter of hours or by the next day. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least 2 days after treatment. Results can last from 9-12 months on average, and the treatment can be repeated as needed to help maintain your new, more attractive nasal profile.

What Types Of Fillers Are Used In Liquid Rhinoplasty?

The most popular type of injectables used for a non-surgical nose job are hyaluronic acid-based fillers, such as Restylane or Juvederm. One of the benefits of using HA-based fillers is that your results can be reversed using specially formulated enzymes. With other types of fillers, patients typically have to wait until the filler compounds dissolve or are metabolized by the body, which can take months.

How Long Does The Liquid Rhinoplasty Procedure Take?

It can take up to 20 minutes for the topical anesthetic to take effect. After that, it may take about 15 minutes to perform the nasal reshaping portion of the treatment.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness can occur after a liquid rhinoplasty, localized at the injection sites. The treated areas may also feel tight. These side effects typically last anywhere from a few hours to a few days and are no cause for alarm.

Does Liquid Rhinoplasty Hurt?

Because each person has their own unique pain threshold, the amount of discomfort experienced with a liquid rhinoplasty is relative. In general, the skin is numbed prior to the injections, which helps to reduce any potential discomfort. Many fillers also contain built-in lidocaine, a numbing agent. Overall, the procedure is considered quite manageable for patients pain-wise, especially when compared to a surgical rhinoplasty.

Is Liquid Rhinoplasty Safe?

While a liquid rhinoplasty is considered a safe, minimally painful treatment, it is still important to select a reputable, experienced provider who will protect your safety and deliver natural-looking results. The nose has many sensitive arteries throughout which should never be interfered with by a needle. Your provider must have an in-depth understanding of facial anatomy and a history of successfully performing liquid rhinoplasties.
