HIFEM

The method of action behind the Emsculpt treatment, HIFEM technology, is the first of its kind in the world. HIFEM technology stands for High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic field, which is a powerful, magnetic system that achieves “supramaximal muscle contractions” and “supramaximal lipolysis.”Our bodies are composed of nearly 25% fat tissue and about 40% muscle tissue depending on whether you are male or female. So treatments that simply target fat tissue or purely achieve fat reduction are ultimately limited in scope.

Supramaximal Lipolysis For The Abdomen

Emsculpt’s HIFEM technology also achieves an effect called supramaximal lipolysis. Supramaximal lipolysis is triggered when your brain receives signals that an incredible amount of activity is occurring in the muscles (the supramaximal contractions). The signals then trigger an extreme catabolic reaction where lipids are rapidly broken down into free fatty acids. The Emsculpt Treatment

Emsculpt treatments are conveniently performed in-office as you are awake and resting comfortably. A typical Emsculpt session lasts for 30 minutes, with a recommended treatment plan of four 30-minute sessions, scheduled with two to three days between each session. The procedure is painless and requires no recovery period after each session. You may experience muscle soreness the day after your session as if you had completed a strenuous workout the day before.

During your Emsculpt treatment, panels will be placed on the area where you desire improvement, usually your abdomen or buttocks. For the abdomen you can do it with a friend as each person will only require one panel. The panels administer High-Intensity Focused Electro-Magnetic energy, which induces contraction in the targeted muscles. The patient’s muscles contract an average of 20,000 times per session, in what is known as supramaximal contractions. This not only promotes the growth of the fiber and volume of the muscles itself, it also stimulates the release of epinephrine, which signals to the fat cells to begin lipolysis, or the breaking down of fat to release fatty acids. The supramaximal contractions stimulate the release of free fatty acids so intensely that the fat cells fail to keep up and induce apoptosis, or death of the fat cell itself. Your body builds muscle during these treatments, as well as destroys fat cells, which your body naturally disposes of later. The settings for the buttocks are different to ensure no fat is lost and only muscle is built.
