Korman Plastic Surgery offers Breast Augmentation to residents of San Jose, CA. A typical Breast Augmentation candidate may have smaller breasts that they wish to enhance, or they may be unhappy with their shape following pregnancy or weight loss. This procedure is also performed on breast cancer survivors who have had one or both breasts removed. Two types of implants are available: saline and silicone. The FDA requires women to be at least 18 years old to have saline implants, and 22 years old to have silicone implants.
What happens during the Breast Augmentation procedure?
The breast augmentation procedure will be performed in a hospital setting. Dr. Korman will administer a general anesthetic before your breast augmentation procedure. An incision will either be made under your breast, or run from your armpit downwards. In some cases, it is necessary to alter the positioning of the nipple; this will help you achieve a natural look. The placement of the incision will depend on the type of implant you need, your current body shape, and how big your new breasts will be. The implant will be placed on top of, or under, the chest muscle. The incisions will be closed, and your breasts will be wrapped with gauze. Typically, patients wear a supportive bra during the healing period. Breast augmentation procedures typically take one to two hours.
When can I resume normal activities after the procedure?
Patients who undergo breast augmentation need to rest for up to three days after the procedure. Activities are limited for up to six weeks.
Is there pain associated with Breast Augmentation?
Patients typically experience swelling and discomfort after the procedure. Over-the-counter or prescription pain medications may be needed to keep you comfortable during the healing process.
