It was interesting to read Angelina Jolie’s op ed in the New York Times today about her double mastectomy and reconstruction. With the BRCA mutation she had a very high risk for developing breast cancer sometime in her life. She also discusses her nipple sparing breast reconstruction that took 9 weeks. For the last five years I have used a technique which speeds that process up to just a week or two. It was brave of Miss Jolie to write publicly about her procedures to heighten awareness about the process. She is not the first celebrity to discuss the process but may well be the most famous. Hopefully this will help other women to seek early treatment as necessary. Please feel free to contact me with any questions about breast reconstruction in general or any specific concerns.
